Biographies

Hi everyone.  I hope everyone had a great spring break.  We've been crazy busy in class this week.  Today we played a fun game using words with the /ou/ sound.  It was just like charades and we had a lot of laughs and lots of fun with it.  Luckily we went right to lunch afterwards because I could have never settled them down.

Directions were sent home for our biographies.  Remember your child's famous person has to have impacted history.  I gave the class the example that Bobby Orr was a great athlete but a bad choice because he didn't really impact history.  Although someone like Jackie Robinson was a great athlete who DID.  We have library on Thursday and I'm hoping the children will be able to find books to help with their research.

Red Sox Day

Wednesday is Red Sox Day.  Wear your favorite team attire and hat and donate a dollar to the PTO technology fund.  Thursday is Hat Day for MS.  Bring in another dollar for that worthy cause as well.

I've been loving the poems.  The students are doing a fantastic job reciting them.  This will be our last week so be sure your child has their poem by Thursday.

I didn't forget about posting pictures.  They will be coming soon.  BUSY BUSY BUSY.  I'm looking forward to vacation to catch up!!!!

Report cards go home on Thursday!

Poetry Fun

I have been really enjoying all the poetry we've been surrounded by.  The children did an excellent job presenting their poems to the class last week.  Some students even wrote their own.  I can't wait to hear the poems this week.

We  have been writing poems like crazy in class.  We wrote diamante poems about boys/girls and acrostic poems about sharks and spring.  Our hallway looks fabulous with all the poetry.

Today we created adjective rainbows about ourselves to decorate the hallway as well.  They look great.  Stay tuned for photos later in the week.

We read a little about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.  She was so brave and heroic.  We were all impressed by her.

In math, we will be diving into the world of graphing.  The weather is getting warmer, thank goodness.  Please keep in mind that although outside may be sixty and warm the building stays cold until summer really kicks in.  Think of that as your child is picking out their outfits.  Also, sandal weather will be here before you know it.  Be sure your child has appropriate footwear for recess, something great for running and climbing.

Acrostic Poetry

Poetry by our class:

Sun is bright in summer
Under water swimming
Moss
Mascot for the Red Sox
Eat outside dinners
Red Sox

Swimming
Under water
Making lemonade
Marvelous summer
Every day I swim in the pool
Rains less

Windy month are in winter
Icy days
Numb fingers
Trees are bare
Excellent winter
Reindeer

Winter is a cold season
Ice is on the ground
Now people play hockey
Trees are leafless
Enormous icicles
Roads are frozen

Want to go outside
Is freezing cold
Not a good time to have a Popsicle
T-shirts are a bad idea
Eat warm food
Riding your bike is a bad idea

April Fools

I made it through the day unscathed.  There were no fake bugs on my chair or any other April Fool shenanigans to get me.  I am thankful for that.

Today we read my FAVORITE BOOK EVER, Ira Sleeps Over by Bernard Waber.  I just LOVE it.  Ira is going to his friend's house for his first sleep over party and is faced with a VERY TOUGH decision.  His sister makes matters worse though out the story.

April is poetry month.  We will be reading and writing all sorts of poems in class.  Today we wrote poems titled Our Emotions.  Children should be finding and practicing a poem to present to the class as part of their homework.  We have PLENTY in class if your child cannot find one at home.  Each child is to practice reading it six times before they read their poem to the class.  He/she can read it to the same person more than once.

Our field trip to the production of Henry and Mudge is Thursday.  Everyone is excited.  We will eat snack when we return from the theater around 11:30 so be sure to have a big breakfast.
